Settings — aspects and orbs

Choose the aspects and orbs used by the Observatory tools (Positions, Chart wheel, Synastry, Timing, Time graphs). Changes are saved at once and every tool follows them.

The readings themselves are not affected (they keep conjunction/opposition 8°, trine/square 7°, sextile 5°). Settings stay on this device and are sent nowhere.

Use	Aspect	Orb (°)

Extra orb when the Sun or Moon is involved (e.g. 1 makes a conjunction with the Sun or Moon count up to 8+1 = 9°)

Try it in Positions

Zodiac (tropical / sidereal)

Tropical (0° at the vernal point; same as the readings) Sidereal (star-based) Ayanamsha

With sidereal, the Observatory tools subtract the ayanamsha from longitudes, signs and cusps (Vedic or Western sidereal). Aspect angles and hit times do not change. Ayanamsha definitions follow the Swiss Ephemeris (epoch value + IAU 1976 general precession; within a few arcseconds of Swiss Ephemeris). The readings are unaffected.

Where this applies

Positions: the aspect table
Chart wheel: lines inside the natal chart and from the outer ring to the natal chart (line weight = exactness against the orb)
Synastry: inter-aspects, composite and Davison aspects
Timing and Time graphs: hit list and time map (enter/leave times use these orbs)
Not applied: void-of-course Moon (by definition the five major aspects) and the readings

The aspects are explained in the guide (Japanese) at <a href="/nyumon/aspect/">Aspects</a>. Minor aspects are usually given small orbs (1–3°).
